Voting Wednesday

Voting Wednesday

We're starting a new weekly thing (I hate the word meme) called "Voting Wednesday". In short, we're making a voting ballot for each Wednesday and invite y'all to voice your opinion on whatever book related (or unrelated, we're not making any promises) issue we happen to pick.

So, here's the rules:

You form an opinion taking sides in the issue voted upon.

You voice that opinion on the comments, either as a short reply or by a link to your blog where you can make a stand.

Easy, eh?

So, the question of this week is very fundamental for book lovers:

Paperback or Hardcover?

Which do you prefer? Please elaborate at will.

  1. I'm gonna go ahead and give y'all my opinion straight away: paperback!

They are just so much easier. I always carry a book with me, and let me tell you, those hardbacks are a bitch to carry around in a handbag... So, just because I'm lazy and hardbacks are heavy, my vote goes for the paperback today.

  2. I hear you, Sisterfriend.

Of course hard covers are better for "fine books", you know, the ones you keep on your living room shelf to show off what a well-educated and intellectual person you are.

But, given how obviously well-educated and intellectual person I am (as evidenced by yesterdays cartoon debate on Twitter), I don't need to show off with books. Haha.

Paperbacks are so much more convenient. And I do like how you can see the marks of reading from a paperback. You can't tell from a hardcover whether it's been read or not. Which is probably why they're so good for giving the intellectual look I mentioned earlier.

But long story short, it's paperbacks for me too. Or old old books.

  3. Hi!

I´m a little lately for this but I found your blog today. I think it´s interesting and I hope you keep reading more and posting!

My (short) answer is hardcover books and you can read more about it on my blog.

  4. No worries, we're not too uptight on these matters (we can't afford to be since we, and by we I mean ii, are always late ourselves anyway). :D

It's been a little slow lately here (I blame ii for having a life for that, haha) but fear not, it's bound to pick up soon since we should be getting a few reviews out shortly and we've got our moviethon coming up next week so I promise you there'll be posts a plenty very soon!

  5. Definitely paperback.

First off, I'm dead broke, and with my book buying habit, I wouldn't be eating if I bought hardcovers.

Also, like you Madeleine I always carry at least one if not two books with me to read if I find the time or the fancy strikes. Paperbacks are so much lighter. Especially with all the crap I carry with me.

And lastly, paperbacks take up less room. I own quite a few books, in the 490s at last count, if those were all hardcover I would have no living space.

So yeah, no argument here, paperback all the way.
